Networks under threat as recession continues warns Clavister

[2009-06-10]

A reduction in spend on IT and enforced job cuts are leaving networks more vulnerable than usual to attack from both internal and external threats warns Clavister, a leading provider of IP-based security and Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions.

With the current world recession forcing many organisations to strategically review how they spend their IT budgets, investment in security may not be seen as a priority. Yet inevitably a recession can lead to an increase in malicious attacks.

This view is supported by many industry analysts who are predicting that organisations will spend substantially less on security during this year and next, and will later come to regret these cutbacks.

Peter Johansson, Clavister’s CEO explains: "At a time when organizations are looking to cut costs wherever possible, it is more important than ever to invest in securing your company network. Now more than ever it is important for security to be considered an essential business tool.

"If defenses are vulnerable, organizations leave themselves wide open to attack from both external and internal sources. And alarmingly, often the biggest threat can come from within an organization.

"With the fate of IT security budgets hanging in the balance, IT managers need to revisit their security strategy and see if efficiency savings can be made. A regular review of security procedures is good practice however, it is essential that IT infrastructure protection be considered a mandatory part of the operations budget.

"Ultimately, when reviewing security spend the main consideration for all organizations needs to be ‘can we afford not to secure our network’," concludes Johansson.

Clavister works with organisations to protect them from the business disruption and financial loss that network security breaches can cause. It provides complete IT security solutions that can be configured and fine tuned to produce the right level of protection for an organization’s needs.
