Clavister Launches Clavister Firewall version 8.3 [2003-10-10]
Clavister today launched Clavister Firewall version 8.3, which adds several important and commonly requested features to the already powerful Clavister products. The new version greatly improves the bandwidth management capabilities of Clavister Firewall, but does also incorporate PPPoE support, a flexible DHCP server and SSL-based user authentication, among other new features.
Clavister Firewall has always been much-appreciated for its scalability and the possibility to solve even the most complex and advanced network engineering tasks. This has also been true for the bandwidth management capabilities, where Clavister Firewall is able to perform policy-based traffic shaping on a very fine-granular basis. Starting from the new 8.3 release, Clavister refines the bandwidth management concept even further. A new, separate ruleset is used to define traffic shaping policies, while the main ruleset can now concentrate on the access policies. This enhancement not only simplifies bandwidth management tasks, but also reduces the overall complexity of managing Clavister products.
An increasing number of DSL and cable modem ISPs use the PPPoE protocol (Point-to-Point tunneling Protocol over Ethernet) for customer authentication.
Clavister Firewall now includes a PPPoE client which allows it to function and easily be deployed in such networks.
Clavister Firewall version 8.3 also incorporates a highly flexible DHCP server, which offers an efficient solution to many network administration problems. Automation and control of IP address assignment is now quick and simple. The DHCP server is an excellent solution for large companies which have frequent changes in their network configuration, and a need to accomodate mobile users.
As of version 8.10, Clavister Firewall has been able to do user authentication via HTTP. The same functionality is now also available via encrypted HTTP: HTTPS.
This, in combination with an SSL server certificate installed on the firewall, allows extremely secure user authentication.
The new software version is freely available for all Clavister users with a valid software subscription. The upgrade can be downloaded from the Clavister Client Web Pages at https://clientweb.clavister.com.
