Clavister announces the availability of Release Candidate 2 (RC2) of Clavister Security Gateway version 8.6
[2005-07-18]Today Clavister announced the availability of Release Candidate 2 (RC2) of Clavister Security Gateway version 8.6. The latest edition of Clavister's firmware includes a comprehensive set of new and enhanced features that assist in helping Clavister customers gain an even higher value from Clavister products.
The RC2 enables registered users of Clavister products to get early access to the latest Clavister technology. This approach has been adopted to ensure that partners and customers will be able to get acquainted and experienced with the new functionality in good time before going to market with the new product. In addition, the RC2 allows Clavister to receive valuable feedback to guarantee maximum customer satisfaction.
The new 8.6 version adds the following major features:
RADIUS Accounting
The extensive support for RADIUS Accounting (RFC 2865, 2866, 2867 and 2869) introduced in firmware version 8.6 delivers accounting information such as session time and bandwidth usage to any RADIUS compatible accounting server.
Refined IPSec VPN engine
The IPSec VPN components in Clavister firmware have been refined and tuned to meet the increased demands on VPN from large enterprise as well as from the telecom industry. Among the changes are support for address translated L2TP over IPSec sessions, increased performance and scalability as well as support for IKE config mode.
Server Load Balancing
The new Server Load Balancing feature in release 8.6 makes it possible for enterprises and data centers to cut costs by removing old and low-performing load-balancing equipment.
The new Server Load Balancing feature delivers the following benefits:
- Scalability - dramatically improves scalability by distributing load across multiple servers.
- Improved performance - helps to reduce the workload of each server and minimize response times.
- Availability - Load distribution and server monitoring cooperates to achieve automatic failover. With these two features, SLB is able to direct traffic to alternative servers if a server fails.
- Security - helps to protect against multiple forms of Denial-of-Service(DoS) attacks by using refined filtering mechanisms that are integrated in the Security Gateway
- Ease of Maintenance - simplified administration as maintenance of individual servers and applications can be done without any service interruptions.
Layer 2 - Transparent Mode Firewalling
The new Transparent Mode feature aims at decreasing costs of deployment in existing networks as well as strengthening security. Clavister's transparent mode mechanism includes several unique features such as the possibility to use dynamic and static address translation in transparent mode. Another example of a unique feature is that IPSec, L2TP and PPTP does not need static routes to remote gateway.
The RC2 is freely available for Clavister users with a valid software subscription. The release can be downloaded from the Clavister Client Web Pages at https://clientweb.clavister.com/.
