Clavister Security Gateway with Server Load Balancing (SLB) distributes various services in the network between different servers, to achieve considerable improvements in the total performance and scalability. Clavister is a Swedish company that develops advanced IP-based security solutions.


Clavister Server Load Balancing is a powerful tool for the improvement of the network’s performance, scalability, reliability and administration. A server cluster can manage many more inquiries than an individual server and by distributing the network’s services between different servers, both the performance and scalability is improved.

SLB also increases the reliability of network applications. By actively surveying those servers sharing the load, inquiries to servers which are down or temporarily over-loaded can be avoided.

Changes can also be made without disturbing the network. Individual servers can be restarted, upgraded, removed or replaced and new servers and applications can be added or moved without affecting the rest of the server farm.

A number of different algorithms for distribution of the load are available to the network administrator, which gives great possibilities of tailoring the system to meet different needs. Among the distribution methods are Per-state Distribution, IP Address Stickiness and Network Stickiness. In addition, there is a choice between Round Robin and Connection Rate distribution models.
