Clavister protects new Apple iPhone 3G business users from hackers and unauthorized access [2008-06-17]The new Apple iPhone 3G, available across Europe from 11th July, is expected to become a popular choice for business users who will need mobile remote access to their business applications and data. Security specialists Clavister AB are now offering a solution for businesses wanting to protect their iPhone 3G users from hackers, based around the Clavister Security Gateway. The solution has recently been proven through extensive interoperability testing with the iPhone and will protect users’ sensitive communications and data from unauthorized access.
"We are very satisfied with the results of our tests and can now offer iPhone users secure access that neither can be tapped nor be used by unauthorized people," said Andreas Åsander, VP Product Management at Clavister. "We are using the iPhone’s built-in Virtual Private Network client for communication with our Security Gateway. This will enhance the security in a way that enables fast access even to sensitive information."
The technology uses encrypted Virtual Private Network tunnels, with password protected access to the corporate gateway. With the help of SecureID, a product developed by RSA Security for performing two-factor authentication for a user to a network resource, there is no need to worry about security exposure if the device is lost or stolen.
"The ability to access business critical data in a secure way from the phone opens up a number of applications," continues Åsander. "For example, a mobile sales force can safely access their CRM systems and exchange important data from anywhere with complete peace of mind from security breaches - a real productivity booster."
Pre-Installed Client
Since the pre-installed client on the iPhone is used to create a secure connection between the phone and the corporate gateway, there is no need for additional installations, thereby reducing costs for licenses as well as administration.
